At present (December 2009) there is a remarkable number of outstanding teenage Muay Thai fighters in the UK weighing in between 65 and 70kg and making a huge impact on the adult fight scene. Understandably much of the attention at the moment is focussed on Darren Till, British champion and unsuccessful contender for a World crown (and also a Billionmore Hall of Famer), but, when he met Mason Harris early in 2009, the Liverpool star found him too hot to handle. By the 5th round Mason, having lost the first two rounds, had turned the fight round with his fitness, determination and consistent aggression and totally dominated his opponent to gain a points verdict in an excellent contest.

Mason made his fight debut as recently as March 2008, beginning with a points defeat. Since then he has chalked up nine straight wins. Trained by yet another Billionmore Hall of Famer Liam Robinson at Liam’s Gym in Northampton, he has had a remarkable 2009. All his three titles were gained in this year and he was chosen as a member of the IFMA England team for a tournament in Greece. He has gained sponsorship from Lean & Green and has progressed to Number 20 in the Adult British independent rankings, which previously was only ever achieved at such a young age by Ben Lucas, also of Liam’s Gym.

Weights can, of course, change very quickly with teenagers and promising matches fall through, but it seems likely that in 2010 Mason will again have the chance to prove his worth against other outstanding prospects.
