Stacey Reile was born in Utica, New York, but now fights out of Miami, Florida, where over half her fights have taken place. Her professional career began, after only one amateur fight, as far back as 2004, a 2nd round tko against Myriam Bazile. After seven years as a professional, a record of 10 wins and 3 defeats suggests she has not been too busy as a fighter. Of course there are not huge numbers of female professional boxers – and there are even fewer who want to take on an opponent who combines great footwork with power, aggression and a real knock-down punch. Anyone who looks at youtube will know Stacey Reile as one of the most popular female boxers, but also one of the most controversial. This comes from her two fights in Germany. Stacey admits to only one of her three defeats, against Ada Velez in Florida in 2010, at a time when Stacey’s mother was dying of cancer so that, not surprisingly, the boxer felt weak in the ring. Stacey’s fury about the fights with Ina Menzer (2008) and Elina Tissen (2010) is as terrifying as her power in the ring! In the Menzer fight Stacey, boxing beautifully, was suddenly felled by an overarm right in Round 4 and the fight was stopped,  but behind that is a saga of her coach being denied entry to the country and an after-the-bell punch at the end of Round 3 that damaged Stacey’s ear and sense of balance. The Tissen fight was a more straightforward affair: Stacey thinks she won almost every round, the judges said the opposite, and you can’t check because somebody (not Stacey) has taken the fight off youtube! Stacey lacks nothing in confidence in her ability. Her record says three defeats; she says, ‘I don’t really consider them losses. I was never beaten up, just distracted by life and politics.’ That fight was for the Global Boxing Union world title and consolation was soon to follow for Stacey when she won the IBF title by defeating Dahania Santana in Costa Rica earlier this year (2011). By her own assessment these last two fights saw her in the best form of her career.
